Launch Angels Announces Maroon & Gold Fund to Support Boston College-Led Ventures

Boston, MA, September 30, 2014 — Today Launch Angels announces a new affinity venture fund, the University Fund for Alumni of BC. The Fund backs early stage ventures with ties to Boston College (BC) and supports promising companies in the growing BC entrepreneurial community. Deals will be sourced from across the BC network, then vetted, selected, and tracked by an experienced team with backgrounds in early stage investment and entrepreneurship. The Advisory Investment Committee, comprised of BC alumni, will review and make recommendations on the investments. Additionally, the Fund will support BC entrepreneurs by connecting them to resources and mentors who can provide access and advice. “There has been a really impressive number of startups coming out of BC in the last year alone,” said Kevin Cook, Managing Director of the Fund and BC Alum / Wallace E. Carroll Graduate, Class of ’04. “As BC’s subculture of entrepreneurship continues to thrive, this Fund is a logical next step in helping connect these budding entrepreneurs to funding and advisors.” Targeting a close of $1 to 2 million, the Fund will invest in approximately 10 to 15 promising, scalable seed-stage companies and utilize the proven management capabilities of Launch Angels to provide investor relations, back office and investment support. Serving as the Managing Director of the Fund, Cook will head the team of experienced investors and entrepreneurs who will source deals for the Fund. “The Fund is a way to support to the alumni, students and the entrepreneurs,” said Peter DiCarlo (BC MBA ’96), Investment Committee Member. “As an alum, I’m particularly excited for the opportunity to give back and help foster the BC entrepreneurial ecosystem at BC.” “In recent years, universities have been placing a stronger emphasis on their entrepreneurial departments,” said Shereen Shermak, CEO, Launch Angels. “While this has led to a substantial increase in the number of university-based startups and an explosion of new entrepreneurs, funding has remained a challenge. Our goal is to make funding more accessible. Funds like this will make this possible and at the same time strengthen the BC entrepreneurial community.” The University Fund for Alumni of BC is not affiliated with nor officially sanctioned by Boston College.
