Green D Fund for Dartmouth Alums Hits $1M

By Russ Garland January 6th, 2015 The Green D Founders Fund, a venture capital fund for investors and startups with Dartmouth College ties, has held its first close at $1 million. The fund expects to hold a final close on Jan. 30 at $1.5 million to $2 million with about 40 Dartmouth alumni as investors, said Mike Collins, the fund’s lead manager. Mr. Collins said interest in the fund, which began fundraising in September , exceeded his expectations. Organizers held dinners for prospective investors in Chicago, San Francisco and Wellesley, Mass., “and basically raised the fund right in those three dinners,” he said. More than 80 companies looking for financing have contacted the fund. It will hold its first investment committee meeting in late February or early March to begin making commitments to ventures led by people with Dartmouth connections, Mr. Collins said.
